An Alabama sheriff’s deputy arrested earlier this week is accused of forging signatures to buy cars and allegedly made nearly $150,000 last year in overtime.

Mobile County Sheriff’s Office deputy Sergeant Daniel Holifield was arrested Tuesday and charged with three counts of theft of property and 10 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument.

A Mobile County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said their records show Holifield earned a base salary of just under $81,000 in 2022, but also earned nearly $150,000 in overtime charges based on a recorded 2,613 hours of overtime.

Over the 52-week year, that meant he was paid for working 50.25 hours of overtime weekly.

The sheriff’s office said they have since changed their system for keeping track of overtime.

Holifield is accused of using letterhead with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office lettering and forging signatures of coworkers to buy 10 cars.
