A 5-year-old Alabama boy was shot and killed over the weekend while sitting in a parked car, police said.

The Selma Police Department and Central Alabama Crimestoppers are investigating the homicide, which occurred around 12:24 p.m. at Valley Creek Apartments on the 11 block of Dallas Avenue.

SPD officers arrived to Valley Creek Apartments in reference to a shooting.

After their arrival, units located a 5-year-old child who sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment where the victim later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead.

Because the child is a minor, their identity can’t be revealed.

Central Alabama Crimestoppers is offering a reward of $1,000. The incident remains under investigation by the SPD and Central Alabama Crimestoppers.
