Alabama toddler killed in house fire

An Alabama toddler was killed early Saturday morning in a house fire, a TV station reports.

Despite the attempts of family and friends on scene, the 19-month-old boy was unable to be reached in the blaze to be rescued, WSFA-TV reports.

The fire started at approximately 2:19 a.m. Saturday in Beauregard in Lee County.

Five family members of the toddler managed to escape the fire.

The toddler, James Baxter Shurum, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
