An Alabama citizen confronted, then shot and killed an alleged car thief was caught red-handed stealing a car early Friday morning, police say.

Huntsville Police told WHNT-TV that the suspect who was killed as Menterra Gurley, 25, who died of gunshot wounds at Huntsville Hospital.

Police said the shooting occurred at a business on Mastin Lake Road early Friday morning when one man got out of his vehicle and entered the business. While he was inside Gurley allegedly got into the vehicle to take it.

The owner of the vehicle came and confront Gurley, allegedly asking him to get out of the vehicle multiple times.

Gurley refused and began driving away when the owner shot him, police said.

Police said no charges have been immediately filed but that the matter will be presented to a Madison County Grand Jury soon.
