Alabama woman killed when truck strikes concrete culvert

An Alabama woman was killed Wednesday after the truck in which she was riding struck a concrete culvert, state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:12 a.m. Wednesday, and claimed the life of an Ashland woman.

Martha K. Powell, 70, was fatally injured when the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup she was a passenger in left the roadway and struck a concrete culvert.

Martha Powell was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, Bradley W. Powell, 34, also of Ashland was transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment.

The crash occurred on Alabama 63 near the 37 mile marker, approximately 5 miles north of Alexander City, in Tallapoosa County.
