Alabama Skies: Possible severe weather outbreak, strong tornadoes monitored by SPC

The Storm Prediction Center is watching the potential for a potent cold front arriving later this week that could bring some severe weather and tornadoes to Alabama. In fact, there is already a Level 3 risk for this storm system that isn’t expected until Thursday and Thursday night. It’s quite uncommon to have a risk this high so many days out, so we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on the forecast over the next couple of days.

The attached graphic shows the possibilities of a tornado at least EF2 in strength within 25 miles of any given point.

In the meantime, we’ll have a chance of showers for much of the state today. We’ll also have the chance for some gusty winds up to 35 or 40 miles per hour. Right now, Tuesday is looking incredible!

North Alabama

Showers are possible throughout the day before becoming sunny in the late afternoon. High near 75. Clear tonight with a low near 52.

Central Alabama

Scattered showers with a high near 78. Mostly clear tonight with a low near 48.

South Alabama

Partly cloudy with a high of 82. Tonight, partly cloudy with an isolated shower possible. Low near 61.

Gulf Coast
