Police say an Alabama man arrested this week killed his grandparents, his brother and another person in a killing spree that shocked neighbors and investigators alike.

Jared Smith-Bracy, 21, has been charged with four counts of capital murder for which prosecutors may seek the death penalty.

Smith-Bracy is accused of killing his grandparents Leonard Smith, 80, Barbara Smith, 72, and his brother, Jeremy Smith, 27. He is also accused of Sheila Glover, 71, a family friend who was visiting his grandparents.

Police say he admitted to shooting Barbara and Jeremy Smith and Ms. Glover in the backyard of their home. Then he reportedly killed his grandfather with a pickaxe.

Police said Smith-Bracy then bludgeoned the victims who were shot with the pickaxe too.

“It’s horrific, you can use any adjective you want to, it’s not going to change,” Daphne Police Sgt. Jason Vannoy said Thursday. “It’s the worst one I’ve seen in 22 years.”
