Police believe an Alabama man kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and then got into a gun fight with the woman’s sister before eventually turning the gun on himself and committing suicide.

Jefferson County Coroner’s Office officials said Dominic Ja Wan Jackson, 42, of Birmingham, Alabama, died Friday of a gunshot wound.

Police believe Jackson kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and were eventually confronted by the woman’s sister.

A fight ensued and Jackson and the woman’s sister are believed to have exchanged gunfire. In the shooting, both the kidnapped woman and the sister were wounded.

They escaped and sought medical attention, while Jackson fled the scene.

Police in Gardendale responded to a shooting on Country Club Trail Friday morning. Arriving officers found Jackson inside a vehicle, dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
