A welfare call on an Alabama woman’s residence led to the discovery of her dead body on Wednesday and as police investigated, they realized her husband and two sons were missing as well.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they were called to a welfare check on Chelle Mill Lane at approximately 11:15 p.m. Wednesday.

They found Jennifer Lepore, 43, of Hazel Green, Alabama, dead. She worked as a special education aide in the Hazel Green Elementary School.

Exactly how she was killed and how long she was dead is pending autopsy reports, investigators said.

Investigators learned that Mrs. Lepore’s husband, Jamie Lepore, 46, also of Hazel Green, and their two children had not been seen recently.

Deputies determined a possible location for Mr. Lepore in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and contacted Murfreesboro Police Department for assistance.

Murfreesboro police went to an address to attempt to locate Mr. Lepore and the two children. While officers were approaching the house, AL.com reported, they heard gunshots from inside.

Officers then discovered what appears to be a murder-suicide involving Mr. Lepore and the two children, Jesse Lepore, 9 years old, and Sean Lepore, 11 years old. Investigators believe Mr. Lepore shot and killed his two sons, then turned the gun on himself.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigators are working with Murfreesboro Police investigators to piece together all the details and timeline of events.

“It is truly a tragic situation to lose an entire family, especially in this manner,” Madison County Sheriff Kevin Turner said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victims”.
