An elderly Alabama man died Tuesday from injuries sustained when his residence caught on fire on Sunday.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said that Jesse Gaddy, 79 of Birmingham, Alabama, died At Princeton Baptist Medical Center on Tuesday.

Gaddy was found by Birmingham Fire/Rescue personnel after they were called to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Cotton Avenue Southwest in Birmingham. The fire occurred at approximately 1:12 p.m. on Sunday.

Gaddy died Tuesday night at the hospital, Yates reported.

The cause and origin of the fire is being investigated by the Birmingham Fire Marshall’s Office and, the circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Birmingham Police Department, Yates said.
