An Alabama man was killed Sunday when his vehicle was struck by an Amtrak passenger train.

Leslie Thomas III, 56, of Bessemer, Alabama, was killed when his vehicle struck a passenger Amtrak train Sunday at approximately 1:16 p.m., Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said.

The accident happened at Avenue A at Fifth Street South in Lipscomb, Alabama, Yates said.

Details of the accident were not released, but were being investigated by the Lipscomb Police Department, Yates said.

Thomas was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle.
