Police said Monday that they have a suspect in custody after the New Year’s Eve deadly mass shooting in downtown Mobile.

Investigators would not name the suspect but said the person was receiving medical care after being shot in the chest during the incident Saturday night in which one person was killed and nine others injured.

After treatment, police said, the suspect will be charged with murder.

Although the motivation for the shooting is not known, police said they believe that two shooters were involved and that the murdered man, identified as Jatarious Reives, 24, was not one of the shooters, but was known to the gunman.

Police said they believe the altercation that led to the shooting was related to neighborhood gangs.
