An airline ground crew member working at an Alabama airport was killed in an accident Saturday afternoon after he was “ingested into the engine” of a jet, investigators said Sunday.

The National Transportation Safety Board said in a statement that the American Airlines/Piedmont Airlines worker who was killed in an accident Saturday was “ingested into the engine” of an Embraer E175 aircraft that was running, but parked at the Montgomery Regional Airport.

The worker has not been identified.

The NTSB said it has opened an investigation into the accident.
