Alabama 14-year-old dies from gunshot wounds

A 14-year-old Alabama boy died Wednesday after being shot on Monday evening, police confirmed.

The shooting occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Monday in Montgomery.

The victim was hospitalized and succumbed to the injuries and was pronounced dead on Wednesday.

The boy was identified as Deanthony Vickers, 14, of Montgomery. He was a student at Carver High School.

His father told AL.com that Deanthony was simply walking down the street, going from his girlfriend’s house to his cousin’s house when someone pulled up and started shooting.

The father said his son was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The school’s football team posted a tribute to him on social media.

Police have said the case is being investigated as a homicide, though no arrests have been made yet.
