A 12-year-old Alabama girl was killed Wednesday morning as she slept when a drive-by shooting riddled her house with 17 bullets.

Police in Birmingham said the shooting happened at approximately 1:51 a.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of 16th Avenue Northwest.

Audriana Pearson, 12, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mayor Randall Woodfin said Audriana was a 7th grader at Erwin Middle School and was just weeks shy of her 13th birthday.

Police detained three people as persons of interest in the shooting.
