An Alabama teen has been charged with aggravated child abuse after his 3-year-old sister was shot while in his care.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Tower Drive in Forestdale at approximately 4:09 p.m. on Thursday. They found a 3-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Deputies said the child was left in the care of her 19-year-old brother, Leon Walker Jr.

After review of the evidence, sheriff’s investigators charged Leon Walker Jr. with aggravated child abuse and he is being held in the Jefferson County jail on a $30,000 bond.

Additional charges are likely as the investigation continues, deputies said.
