An Alabama man was killed Friday night after he apparently accidentally shot himself with a gun he had in his truck.

Selma, Alabama, police investigators said the death of Marcus Cleveland, 33, looks like an accidental shooting after an initial investigation.

According to Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford and Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. Friday night at the 1500 block of Highland Avenue.

“The preliminary investigation is that it was accidental by the victim,” Fulford said.

Jackson said that the victim, “appeared to have accidentally shot himself when he was picking up a banner and the gun was in the truck.”

The incident remains under investigation by the SPD.
