Alabama teen gunned down as she headed to school, her mother critically injured in shooting

Police have identified the Alabama teenager who was shot and killed Wednesday morning as her mother drove her to school.

Police say 14-year-old Moriah Quib-Marquez was killed Wednesday morning and her mother critically injured as a gunman opened fire on their SUV at near the intersection of 80th Street and Fifth Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama.

Witnesses said they saw a man with a long gun just open fire on the victims’ car.

Witness Ed Finton told AL.com what he saw.

“I woke up to gunfire,” he said. “My dog was going nuts.

“I could see a guy standing in the middle of 80th Street with a long gun just shooting randomly,” Finton said. “When I saw that I called 911.”

Moriah attended Ossie Ware Mitchell Middle School.

A suspect was taken into custody, but as of late Wednesday the man had not been identified or charged.
