Police: Alabama homeowner shoots apparent home invasion suspect

Police believe an Alabama homeowner shot a home invasion suspect, who then went to a nearby gas station where police found him suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man was transported Birmingham area hospital where he died.

Birmingham Police were called to a home invasion at 12:44 a.m. Tuesday morning on Avenue O.

Two minutes later, dispatcher received a report from a nearby gas station on Bessemer Avenue about a man who had been shot.

The man, later identified as Jamel Nathan Thomas, 29, was taken to the hospital where he died.

Police report that the homeowner on Avenue O said that has shot the intruder who broke into their home. Police believe Thomas was the intruder.

The homeowner is cooperating with investigators.
