A Montgomery man was arrested Nov. 7 on an escape warrant from the Alabama Department of Corrections, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Lamar Vanhuse, 46, of Montgomery, was placed under arrest and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center to await extradition back into the custody of the ADOC.

The arrested stemmed after an APD sergeant received a complaint at noon on Nov. 7 that someone, later identified as Vanhuse, was selling cell phones at Bragg Street Apartments without a business license.

“The sergeant upon discovering that Vanhuse did not possess a business license instructed Vanhuse to gather his belongings and instructed Vanhuse to obtain a city of Atmore Business License in order to continue his activity legally,” McMann said. “The sergeant requested Vanhuse identify himself and discovered through dispatch that Vanhuse had a warrant through the Alabama Department of Corrections for Escape Second Degree.”
