Alabama police said Tuesday night a rape suspect who had been subject of a manhunt for days had turned himself into authorities.
Navaeh-Ojore Timothy-Carl Payton, 21, was considered “armed and dangerous” police had said earlier. Tuesday night he was held on a $1 million bond.
He’s charged with first-degree rape and third-degree burglary.
The hunt for Payton started last week when police in Irondale received a report of a woman being assaulted.
Police identified Payton as the suspect and a police officer located a car matching Payton’s car and made a traffic stop on the driver of the vehicle at the Grants Mill Road and Interstate 20. The man fled the police and into a wooded area.
Investigators used police dogs, helicopters and SWAT teams to locate Payton, but were unsuccessful.
