Auburn fired head football coach Bryan Harsin Monday, ending a 22-month stint at the university and after a losing record of 9-12.

The change was not unexpected as fans and university supporters have been disgruntled at the Tigers’ lackluster performance.

“Auburn University has decided to make a change in the leadership of the Auburn University football program,” the university announced in a written news release. “President (Chris) Roberts made the decision after a thorough review and evaluation of all aspects of the football program. Auburn will begin an immediate search for a coach that will return the Auburn program to a place where it is consistently competing at the highest levels and representing the winning tradition that is Auburn football.”

Harsin was under a $31.5 million, six-year deal for which he’ll still be owed approximately $15 million, AL.com reported Monday.
