Rescue crews recovered a dead body Wednesday near one of Alabama’s most iconic waterfalls.

Firefighters with the City of Gadsden were called to Noccalula Falls Park after someone spotted an unconscious person at the bottom of Black Creek Gorge, the city reported in a news release.

The body was between the waterfall and the park’s suspension bridge.

Crews who arrived said the person had apparently not died recently based on the condition of the body.

The man was identified as Benjamin King, 42. He was reportedly lived in the Gadsden area.

The county coroner said there was no immediate evidence of foul play, but that the death would be investigated.
