An Alabama police officer who was critically injured after being shot repeatedly while on duty in 2019 has been arrested on a domestic violence charge, news outlets reported Thursday.

Samuel Yoh, 45, of Ozark was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after Ozark police responded to a domestic disturbance. He was charged with third-degree domestic violence with harassment and held in the Dale County Jail.

An attorney representing Yoh in a separate civil lawsuit did not immediately return an email seeking comment.

Yoh was shot six times on Dec. 12, 2019, while answering a call while working for the Ozark Police Department. Three shots struck him in the head, authorities said at the time.

After what police described as a miraculous recovery, Yoh recovered and returned to duty. He was working for the Newton Police Department at the time of the arrest and has been placed on leave, WDHN-TV reported.

Court records show Yoh filed suit seeking worker compensation benefits earlier this year against the city of Ozark over injuries he suffered in the shooting to the head, an ankle and an arm. The city is fighting the claim and has denied Yoh was hurt while performing duties in the scope of his work.

The man who allegedly shot Yoh was killed by police at the scene.

Ozark, home of the Army’s Fort Rucker helicopter training base, is about 90 miles (145 kilometers) south of Montgomery.
