Alabama teen dead after ATV strikes tree, overturns, state police say

A 17-year-old from Alabama died as a result of injuries he sustained after the ATV he was riding on struck a tree and overturned, Alabama state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, ultimately killing the Sylacauga, Alabama, juvenile.

The 17-year-old was seriously injured when the 2017 Polaris Razor ATV, in which the youth was a passenger, left the roadway and struck a tree before overturning.

The ATV was driven by Taylor L. Thomas, 19, of Sylacauga.

Thomas nor the teen were using a seat belt and were ejected from the ATV.

Thomas and the youth were both transported to a local area hospital, the 17-year-old was later transported to an area hospital where the teen succumbed to injuries.

The crash occurred on Pelican Lane, approximately 11 miles southwest of Sylacauga, in Coosa County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
