Law enforcement is investigating the robbery of a Alabama credit union Monday morning and are actively searching for a suspect.
The Opp Police Department and Covington County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Opp Micolas Credit Union where the robbery took place at approximately 9:54 a.m.
“A black male between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet tall with light skin came into the Opp Micolas Credit Union and presented the teller a note. He also showed a small handgun and the note basically requested the teller to give some U.S. currency. The teller complied and the subject left the premises walking back to Cummings Avenue. The Covington County K-9 team came and did a track,” said Opp Police Chief Kevin Chance.
Chance added that it is believed the subject in question left the Credit Union premises on foot and then entered a vehicle.
“At this time, we are processing the scene. The FBI is on the scene, and we’re also in the process of recovering videos from surrounding businesses to help us in identifying the individual,” Chance said.
According to police, the subject was wearing a brownish-colored jacket and a brownish-derby-style hat. He was also wearing a black mask that covered his nose and mouth only.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Opp Police Department at 334-493-4511.
