Man who pulled gun and opened fire on Alabama deputies is shot, killed; no deputies were injured, police say

Officers shot and killed a person who was walking along a rural road early Wednesday after he pulled a gun and opened fire, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Two deputies who were on patrol in the southwest Alabama county about 1:30 a.m. when they saw a person walking on a county road, the department said it in a statement. The statement said the person was “suspicious,” but it didn’t indicate why.

The pedestrian, who was identified only as a male, pulled a gun and shot at deputies, the statement said. Deputies returned fire, killing the person.

The officers, who weren’t identified, were not injured, the statement said.
