An investigation is underway after a body was found in Alabama.

The body was found late Saturday by someone riding an ATV in a wooded area of western Jefferson County, Sgt. Joni Money said.

Responding deputies said the remains of a male appear to have been there for an extended period of time, al.com reported.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office will work to determine the victim’s identity and the cause and manner of his death, authorities said.
