Two people were arrested for meth dealing following a commotion in front of the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) office in Alexander City.

The Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force and the Alexander City Fire Department were called to the scene on the side of U.S. Highway 280 Monday, according to a statement from the sheriff’s department, where one of the men appeared to be injured.

“As the subject flailed and yelled uncontrollably, agents attempted to administer aid and prevent him from rolling into oncoming traffic,” the statement read. “Alexander City Fire [Department] medics were called to the scene as task force agents were able to determine the subject’s behavior was caused by the use of narcotics.”

In an ensuing vehicle search, agents found 28 grams of methamphetamine, leading to the arrest of New Site resident Jason Jacques, 42, and Kellyton resident Kevin Michael Butts, 40, for meth trafficking. Jacques was also charged with public intoxication.

In Alabama, possession of meth weighing 28 grams or more is automatically considered trafficking. The felony conviction comes with a minimum sentence of three years’ jail time and a $50,000 fine.
