A house fire and explosion has left one person dead in a west Alabama town.

The explosion and fire in a home in Cottondale happened Monday, Al.com reported.

Firefighters found heavy and smoke and fire at the home when they arrived, said Holly Whigham of Tuscaloosa Fire & Rescue.

Three people were home at the time, but only two of them made it out of the house, Whigham said. The name of the person who died was not immediately released.
