Crash claims life of Alabama woman reportedly driving wrong way on interstate

A collision on Interstate 20 near Heflin claimed the life of a Dadeville woman.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division Kimberly D. Sims, 42, of Dadeville was driving the wrong way on the interstate.

“[Sims] was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 when the 2002 Toyota Camry she was driving collided head-on with a 2000 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Michael Thompson, 53, of Thomaston, Georgia,” an ALEA press release stated. “Sims was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham where she later succumbed to her injuries.”

The crash occurred approximately three miles west of Heflin. Nothing further is available as Troopers continue to investigate.
