An Alabama high school junior has released her first novel and it’s available across the country on Amazon.

Camille Kellie of Isabella High School has released her first novel, “Saving Riley.”

Kellie, who is 17 years old, said the plot pulls from her life experiences living with extended family and being in foster care.

“This idea is kind of a part of my life story,” Kellie said.

In the book, her main character Riley faces abandonment by her biological family and the opportunity for a new family.

“I wanted to let other people know that you can overcome struggles, and if you persevere anything is possible,” Kellie said.

Kellie started working on the book in May. To keep her book on track, Kellie said she outlined the plot before writing. After three rounds of edits, she felt ready to release the book.

“I am really excited for people to read this,” Kellie said.

Kellie had released a book of poetry through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing last year.

“I liked the excitement of it,” Kellie said, commenting that it inspired her to develop her book idea for publication.

After submitting her novel, Kellie waited anxiously for an email saying that the book had been accepted.

Getting the email confirmation that the book was going to be available on Amazon was “a pure joy of excitement.”

Kellie said she has always enjoyed writing.

“Writing has always been my outlet,” Kellie said.

She hopes to have careers in writing and social work.
