A man has been arrested and charged with injuring an Alabama state trooper who was trying to arrest him, according to authorities.

Randy Lee Wade, 57, was arrested without incident in Sumter County at around 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Authorities with the United States Marshal Services’ Fugitive Task Force, the 17th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest.

Officials said that no shots were fired in the original incident, which was described as a physical altercation.

It happened around 11:45 p.m. on Friday at Alabama Highway 28 and Interstate 20/59 in Livingston, when the trooper stopped Wade for a traffic violation, and then attempted to arrest him on six warrants, according to ALEA.

The injured trooper worked for ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division. He was treated at an area hospital for injuries sustained during the incident, officials said.

Wade was being held in jail on charges of attempted murder, first-degree escape and second-degree theft of property. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.
