A former Alabama teacher has pleaded guilty to sex crimes involving a student.

Dustin Wade Dalton, 29, received a 10-year prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to second-degree sodomy and school employee having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19.

A former Sylvania teacher, Dalton will be required to serve three years in prison. He will serve another five years on supervised probation after his release. He also must register as a sex offender.

Dalton was arrested in October 2020 and then indicted on multiple charges in June.

Five days after Dalton’s arrest, his brother Donavan Wayne Dalton, of Rainsville, was charged as a school employee having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19. He formerly worked in Fort Payne.

Donovan Dalton was indicted on charges of sodomy, school employee having sexual contact with a student, and sex with a child more than 12 years old but less than 16.
