Alabama police say an argument over a broken necklace led to a fatal shooting last weekend.
Early Sunday morning, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they were called to the 200 block of 18th Avenue Northwest after a caller advised hearing gunshots.
The investigation revealed that Maurice Carter, 31, had come to the location and began arguing about a necklace that had been broken earlier during a fight.
Witnesses told deputies Carter brandished a handgun and began pointing it at person at the resident.
The person was able to back away from Carter and eventually retrieved a shotgun and fired it once at Carter, who died at a UAB hospital later that day.
Investigators and the district attorney’s office have determined the shooting was in self-defense and thus no charges will be filed.
