Alabama police have charged a man with capital murder after a 3-year-old child was shot and killed Saturday.

Montgomery police report Orlando Meghell Harriell, 35, has been taking into custody in connection with the shooting death of  3-year-old Jeremiah Chappell. He was booked into the Montgomery County Detention Center at 1:31 a.m. Sunday.

Al.com reports that Montgomery police responded at 5 p.m. Saturday to a Montgomery hospital on a report of a child shot. The child was later pronounced dead.

Few details of the deadly shooting have been released.
