With discovery of body of elderly woman, Alabama city has already surpassed last year’s number of homicides

Alabama officials are investigating the discovery of the body of an elderly woman after officers responded to a shooting into an occupied dwelling.

With the death, the city of Selma has surpassed the total number of homicides investigated in the city in 2020.

The Selma Police Department found the body of an elderly woman at Bradley Homes for the Elderly on Sunday.

Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford said SPD officers found the body of the deceased body after receiving a call.

“Officers responded to Bradley Homes in reference to shooting into an occupied dwelling,” Fulford said. “Upon arrival, officers discovered an elderly woman suffering from a gunshot wound and unresponsive.”

Fulford said the shooting incident remains under investigation by the SPD and there are no suspects at the moment. He also did not reveal the woman’s identity.

This is the 11th murder in Selma this year, including 10 homicides. It surpasses last year’s total of 10 murders.
