Alabama police have charged a woman with capital murder in connection with the shooting death of a 19-year-old Saturday morning.

Brenygha “Bre” Tatyna Mashaye Edwards, 22, has been charged with capital murder in the slaying of Versaun Leonard.

Officials with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit on Sunday say the shooting happened shortly after midnight Saturday on Willow Lane. When police arrived, they found Leonard dead.

Edwards was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Sunday morning. Sellers said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.

Investigators are working to determine if the Saturday morning shooting is linked to an earlier shooting that critically injured an 18-year-old female, as well as two 21-year-olds. That shooting happened at 11:30 p.m. Friday at the Branscomb Apartments public housing community.

Edwards is being held without bond.
