Man wanted for questioning, fatally shot after Alabama chase

A man wanted for questioning in a slaying last week in Alabama was shot to death after an interstate chase in northern Jefferson County.

The shooting happened about 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hayden exit off Interstate 65. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, al.com reported.

Jeremy Joseph Sehhat, 40, was killed last Thursday in Graysville. Detectives and other law enforcement identified a suspect in the slaying and began to search for him. On Tuesday, Detective Tony Washington told the news site they learned the suspect might be in northern Jefferson County and notified authorities there.

Police surrounded a trailer where they believed the suspect was and he eventually jumped out a window and fled in a Honda CRV. Law enforcement pursued him onto Interstate 65 until he exited in Hayden. He hit at least one Blount County sheriff’s vehicle and then bailed from the SUV. That sheriff’s deputy in the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

Authorities said the man tried to carjack a woman before turning his gun toward officers. Multiple officers returned fire, killing him. Authorities have not said which agencies the officers involved in the shooting were with. Agencies involved included Alabama State Police, Graysville police, Adamsville police, Warrior police, and the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, according to the news site.
