An Alabama corrections officer was arrested, accused of smuggling contraband into jail for an inmate.

Russell County corrections officer Alicia Laury, 39, aces a charge of promoting prison contraband in the second degree.

Local news sources report that Laury had been involved in a relationship with the inmate since November 2019,

Laury reportedly brought contraband into the jail on two separate occasions. On one occasion, Laury reportedly smuggled in a couple of cellphones. On a separate occasion, Laury is suspected of bringing marijuana and tobacco with rolling papers.

Because marijuana is an illegal drug in Alabama,  Laury’s charges have been elevated to a felony status. Laury faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, if convicted.

Laury was booked at the Russell County jail and then transported to the Lee County jail where is currently being held without bond.
