Alabama man charged with 11 sex crimes — including torture — against children

An Alabama man has been charged with rape and the sexual torture of a child among other charges.

Sergio Anselmo-Cruz, 43, of Inverness Landings in Shelby County has been jailed at the Shelby County Jail jailed on bonds totaling $692,000.. He is charged with sexual torture of a child, two counts of first-degree rape, three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, three counts of sexual abuse of a child and two counts of chemical endangerment of a child.

AL.com reports that recently released court documents report that Anselmo-Cruz sexually assaulted a child with a purple plastic toy and also offered to allow a minor to “sniff white power” believed by investigators to be cocaine. Officials believe that the two victims involved in the case are not his children.

The alleged assaults occurred between 2014 and 2020, charging documents state.
