Alabama city council candidate stabbed to death days before special election

A candidate for the Montgomery City Council was killed Sunday, stabbed to death just days before Tuesday’s special election.

Montgomery police report they were called to the stabbing at 11:41 a.m. and found Davore Jones bleeding. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jones is also known as “Walking Jon Da’Voe-Shelby. He was one of several candidates on the ballot for a seat that was vacated when an alderman died while in office.

Police have charged Dontae Pettawy, 25, with Jones’ murder, but have offered no suggestion as to a motive or details about what led to the stabbing.
