Alabama man dies after jumping off interstate overpass

An Alabama man died early Thursday morning after jumping off an interstate overpass in Hoover.
AL.com reports that Hoover police responded to report of a single-vehicle crash a call at 11:52 p.m. Wednesday. The crash reportedly occurred on Interstate 65 southbound near the Interstate 459 interchange. The driver of the wrecked vehicle was reported by other callers as climbing over the railing of the interstate.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they found the man standing on the guardrail, threatening to jump. Portions of I-65 and I-459 were shut down while officials tried to convince the man to climb down.
After 30 minutes of talking with a negoitiator, the 42-year-old jumped from the guardrail. The man was transported to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:08 a.m.
His name was not released.
