An Alabama toddler is in serious condition after he and his mother were injured after shots were fired at their house.

According to local news sources, the shooting occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday at an apartment on John Bryan Road in Birmingham.

Birmingham police said someone outside fired shots into the home, striking a woman and her 2-year-old son, the news outlets reported.

The child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is in serious condition. The woman’s wounds were not considered life-threatening, authorities said.
