Two men taken in custody after 2020 dispute over parking spaces turns deadly

Two men have been arrested in a dispute over a parking space that ended with one man dead.

Joshua Xavier Sanders, 18, and Curtis Demetris Sanders, 51, were taken into custody charged with multiple violations, including murder, attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and shooting into an unoccupied vehicle.

Officials said a dispute over parking spaces led to gunfire on the afternoon of Sept. 27, 2020. The shooting happened at 42nd Street North in Birmingham.

Officers arrived to find 42-year-old Michael Alexander McGee lying on the side of the road suffering from a gunshot wound. McGee was taken by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Joshua Sanders is charged with six felony crimes. His bond is set at $255,000. Curtis Sanders is charged with five felonies and his bonds total $270,00. Both remain in jail.
