A Fairfield mother is behind bars, accused in the death of 10-month-old son more than two years ago.

Maya Nacole Freeman, 25, was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with manslaughter and aggravated child abuse. The charges stem from grand jury indictments issued in December.

On Dec. 27, 2018, Freeman’s son, 10-month-old Christian DeWayne Cook was taken to Children’s of Alabama hospital, where he died three days later.

Officials from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office determined that Freeman’s son died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Freeman remains held on bonds totaling $150,000.
