One man is dead and another is being questioned after Birmingham police were led on a series of strange events Sunday morning.

When the city’s gunfire detection system indicated a series of gunshots on the 200 block of 62nd Street South at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, police responded and found several “spent shell casings” and blood on the ground, but no suspects or victim.

While searching the area, Officers came across a community member who reported they had a person of interest on the phone with them who may be connected to the shots fired. At 4:25 a.m., officers were told that the person of interest was traveling in a vehicle on the east side of Birmingham and left the car parked at the Shell gas station at 3833 Eastlake Boulevard.

Officers arrived at the Shell gas station where they located the vehicle, abandoned, in the parking lot. Inside the vehicle officers found the victim, Timothy Hall, 39, lying unresponsive inside, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the scene and pronounced him dead.

The community member informed officers that the person of interest wished t speak to police and was located nearby in Tarrant, where officers took the person of interest into custody at the Birmingham Police Headquarters, free of any incident, for questioning.
