The driver of an 18-wheeler died Thursday in a crash on Interstate 10 in Mobile.

Leland Driskel III, 56, was identified as the driver of the truck who died in the crash.

The deadly crash, which happened shortly after 2 p.m., closed westbound I-10 at the Theodore Dawes exit for hours Thursday afternoon.

Troopers said Driskel’s 18-wheeler truck had a tire blowout which caused him to lose control and veer off of the roadway. The vehicle then struck multiple trees, causing it to land on its side and burst into flames.

Witnesses say they were shocked at how fast the truck burst into flames after the crash.

Investigators said the truck was carrying logs and was involved in storm debris cleanup. The vehicle was driving westbound on I-10 when it lost control.
