A Florida man is lucky to be alive after an afternoon dog walk turned into a fight for his life with an alligator.

According to new sources, Port St. Lucie resident Mark Johnson, 61, was walking his dog when he was attacked by an 8-foot gator.

After Johnson got his foot stuck in the mud, the alligator lunged at him and sunk its teeth into his leg.

Johnson survived the attack, but he did receive 62 stitches in his right leg.

His dog, Rex, was unharmed during the attack.
