Alabama pedestrian struck by train, killed

A 21-year-old man was killed after being hit by a train early Wednesday in Auburn, police said.

The Auburn Police Department said in a news release that officers responded around 1:10 a.m. to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a train near Bragg Avenue.

Police and fire personnel found the victim near the tracks and began first aid. The victim was flown to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital by helicopter but died from his injuries.

Police did not release the name of the victim so family members can notify other relatives.

Police said the death is believed to be an accident, but remains under investigation.
